Reprise

Posted : 17 years, 3 months ago on 23 January 2007 06:28 (A review of True Magic)

Out of respect to the legacy that was left with Black on Both Sides, I felt that True Magic was deserving of a few more plays. But recycled lyrics through an unenthusiastic voice has ultimately left me wondering what has happened to the Mighty Mos. To put it bluntly, the CD almost put me to sleep tonight while driving home from LA.

No True Magic Here

Posted : 17 years, 3 months ago on 22 January 2007 12:37 (A review of True Magic)

Being a fan of Mos Def is no longer an excuse to appreciate his musical "attempts" anymore. Shifting his focus to acting has become well apparent as this new album just fails to revive the "true magic" that was Black on Both Sides.

Say It Ain't So

Posted : 17 years, 3 months ago on 22 January 2007 12:26 (A review of Beerfest)

Say It Ain't So. I was hoping that Club Dread was just a fluke following the comedic gem of Super Troopers, but the Broken Lizard team may have proven that Super Troopers itself was a fluke. Nevertheless, Beerfest was just plain awful. I honestly don't think I laughed once through the entire film. The movie was all build up with a weak finish and it left me wondering why would they ever follow up this film with Potfest???

Only Dupree

Posted : 17 years, 3 months ago on 9 January 2007 12:27 (A review of You, Me and Dupree)

Unfortunately, this movie was written solely around the comedic genius of Owen Wilson. Had a better storyline supported the slapstick comedy, this may have been a much better film.

Voodoo Kills

Posted : 17 years, 3 months ago on 4 January 2007 07:35 (A review of Venom)

Another typical teen slasher. This time the killer is a voodoo induced zombie controlled by the forces of snakes (lame) and the only one left standing was the innocent shy girl (lamer). Voodoo definitely kills, and it may have killed this film.

Drowning in the Water

Posted : 17 years, 4 months ago on 28 December 2006 02:30 (A review of Lady in the Water)

After growing accustomed to the style of M. Night Shyamalan and his twisted endings, some may not appreciate the straightforward fantastical story presented in Lady in the Water. I was one of those people as the storyline was less than appealing and seemed to drag on with the ultimate resolve being very ordinary. It seems the magical run of M. Night Shyamalan and his stories have finally come back to earth.

Wasted Time

Posted : 17 years, 4 months ago on 28 December 2006 02:53 (A review of The Wicker Man)

Why a remake of this dull, predictable, non-thriller ever came to be is a question by films end that still remains unanswered. Nicholas Cage continues to disappoint with every film he releases and with a plot that could have been wrapped up in about ten minutes kills you for an hour and a half, you start to wonder why anybody trusts Cage to go on acting.

Nothing New

Posted : 17 years, 4 months ago on 28 December 2006 02:47 (A review of See No Evil)

A WE Production? Haha! Once I got passed that and settled into the film I realized I wasn't in for anything new and original to the horror genre. But in true gore fashion, WE superstar Kane showed the big screen how to spill blood and I appreciated ever sick second of it.

TV to Big Screen at its Best

Posted : 17 years, 4 months ago on 28 December 2006 02:42 (A review of Miami Vice)

The remake was a little suspect, but Michael Mann's transition of his famed television crime drama to the big screen was a big success largely in part to his gritty camera angles and action sequences reminiscent of Heat. Although slow at some parts, the focus on the characters love lives really drew you into what the television show was all about. Colin Farrell and Jamie Fox were a dynamic duo of sorts and really captured the roles.

The Ultimate Christmas Classic

Posted : 17 years, 4 months ago on 26 December 2006 04:12 (A review of A Christmas Story (1983))

What more can I say that hasn't already been said? The ultimate Christmas classic has grown such a part of the holiday tradition that tv stations devote an entire Christmas Eve to its airing. Which of course ensures that we are all able to relive and enjoy its glory at least once or twice a year.
