Necessary Violence

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 23 November 2006 09:15 (A review of A History of Violence)

I really appreciated Viggo Mortensen's 180 role reversal when violence released the dark side of his past. But as his relationship with Maria Bello changed I didn't expect nor accept the forgiveness of his new family.

Huh?

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 22 November 2006 06:02 (A review of Man of the House)

I couldn't quite understand if this was a comedy or action thriller but either way it was bad. Picture Tommy Lee Jones in US Marshals meets the ditziness of Legally Blonde or Clueless. Is Cedric the Entertainer a comedian? I don't think we will ever know.

Drive-in

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 22 November 2006 05:56 (A review of Down and Out in Beverly Hills)

This was the first ever movie I had seen at a drive-in theater and I hadn't realized how funny it was until I recently saw it again. Richard Dreyfuss is great, but Nick Nolte is the man in this film. Honestly, I wish they would bring back the drive-in so I can relive all the 80s classics.

Nothing to Lose

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 22 November 2006 05:50 (A review of Let It Ride)

This is every gambling junkies fantasy dream, a day at the track where with every bet you can't lose. Richard Dreyfuss is hilarious, you got nothing to lose by watching this film.

Hilarious

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 22 November 2006 05:44 (A review of Bachelor Party)

The original Tom Hanks is hilarious in this laugh out loud 80s comedy. It really is amazing how good an acting career Hanks has had, especially in his transition from comedy to drama.

CSI: Miami

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 22 November 2006 01:12 (A review of CSI: Miami)

The acclaimed CSI series went south (figuratively) with the addition of Miami. David Caruso may have resurrected his career with a high weekly Nielsen rating, but that does not account for his ridiculous overacting and dramatic postures. As for the rest of the cast, Calleigh (Emily Procter) may be one of the worst actresses on television and "Mr Wolfe" (in David Caruso's voice) is a pathetic clone of the original series' fun loving Greg Sanders (Eric Szmanda). The newest addition, mole-turned-CSI Natalia Boa Vista (Eva La Rue) is so awful, she makes Emily Procter look like an Oscar winner.

Aside from the cast, another grievance is when each CSI feels the need to explain their "techniques" to each other as a way for the audience to understand what is going on. Honestly, stop taking cues from Sesame Street, we are not 5 years old, so don't explain it to each other with voices that look down on our intelligence.

I guess the only reason I still watch is because Thursday is a long ways from Monday and like any crack addict I need to fill the void until the original airs.

More Like Hot Shit

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 22 November 2006 12:49 (A review of Hot Shots! Part Deux)

Somehow, I was begging for spoof king Leslie Nielsen to make an appearance and rescue this film. Charlie Sheen may be CBS's comedy golden child (literally and monetarily), but this sequel falls far short from the original.

Please Retire

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 17 November 2006 01:31 (A review of Metro)

Like any star athlete fading from their prime, you always wish they would go out on top. In this case, during the 80's Eddie Murphy was the Magic Johnson of the action comedy genre. But following his last good film, Another 48 Hrs., the inevitable decline came into focus. Eddie, I am pleading with you, take a cue from Magic's unfortunate return to the game he once dominated, don't do action comedies anymore. This film was so awful/predictable, don't do it.

Drugs

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 17 November 2006 01:22 (A review of The Basketball Diaries)

Don't get me wrong, the acting and story was great, but I can't handle drug movies (except Requiem for a Dream), they skeeve me out too much. However, Leonardo DiCaprio is brilliant in this film.

"Tanked" Girl

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 17 November 2006 01:18 (A review of Tank Girl)

Tank Girl is an ADD teen without prozac, a speed junky, and Lori Petty (worst actress ever) wrapped with all the annoying qualities of Steve Urkel and Samuel 'Screech' Powers. Possibly one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
